				      <title>February 06th, 2012 - Master Plan - solo exhibition by Jason Wee</title>
				      <link>http://www.whatshappening.sg/events/index.php&#63;com=detail&amp;eID=60942</link>
				      <description>Opening night with the Artist - Wed 1st February, 7 - 9pm

'A new plan for the city has been drawn up, in black and white. The civil servant leaves his office at the end of the day and locks up. Left alone, his symbols had other ideas.' (Jason Wee)

Jason Wee's first solo exhibition in almost three years - Master Plan - is a powerful culmination of the artist's most recent academia at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, US. Wee's studies in architecture have evoked personal consideration of scale within a city's 'master plan', which in turn has led the artist to conceive the exhibition's installation, an abstract model of a city but one with a menacing and slightly melancholic blueprint.

The grey geometric shapes Wee employs for the high-density buildings will be familiar to viewers of the School show at Singapore Art Museum at 8Q (2008) and the commanding grey palette is one that has followed the artist, not only in his physical workspace, but deliberately through his own series of artworks. The installation includes over 250 individual elements including three digital prints.</description>

				      <link>http://www.whatshappening.sg/events/index.php&#63;com=detail&amp;eID=59814</link>
<description>The ReDot Fine Art Gallery is excited to hold its annual Stock Room Show as we close out the year and bring a little from each of our art centre relationships, be it a small gem from the desert or a majestic masterpiece from one of our Top End centres. We’ve spent some time rummaging around in our vast storeroom just for you to help make buying that something special at Christmas that little bit easier!

With so many exciting pieces to choose from, it wasn’t easy to narrow the selection down, but we are very confident that we’ve chosen the best of our best to bring you for our Christmas Stock room show commencing on the 7th of December and other pearls for our welcome to 2012 Stockroom show which opens on the 4th of January.

It is a great way to find a unique and striking gift for that special someone during the festive season, or even a little something for you as a treat for what has been a difficult and long year!

The vibrant colours and stunning palettes that make up our stock room shows will be the perfect way to kick off the holiday season and then blow away the post festive period cobwebs.
Stop by Wednesday December 14th from 12:30 onwards for a bit of holiday cheer on our opening day and also share a glass of mulled wine and some seasonal treats.

If it’s not a painting you are after but you still can’t think of what to get that special someone for the holidays how about coming to our first ever Christmas Bazaar too! For those tired of the same old mass produced products ReDot Fine Art Gallery will celebrate the festive season by inviting a selected group of vendors to bring their exclusive products to our inaugural Christmas Bazaar.

These vendors include, Fair and Square with Recycled Glass products from rural Indonesia, Thai Spa products and Christmas Decoration handcrafted in Northern Thailand hill tribe communities; FIREHORSE, a contemporary jewellery collection gathered from around the world; Patch Magic showcasing fashion wear made from retro Japanese kimonos, obis, and wedding gowns; Source 53 representing international artists and designers from Africa, Latin American and Asia; Talking Textiles aiming to invoke conversations through the stylised designs of everyday objects; and Vivien Pei bringing a selection of Christmas Treats that will sure bring smiles to everyone’s faces – young or old!

We hope to make this an annual event and a relaxing, exquisite shopping experience for all. Kids are welcome too; we will have a small painting section to entertain them and keep them busy as you browse the array of products on offer and delicious sugar treats to tempt them into good behaviour.

The Bazaar dates are Friday 2nd and 9th December 2011 from 12pm to 7pm.

				      <title>February 07th, 2012 - The ExtraOrdinary - solo exhibition by Boo Sze Yang</title>
				      <link>http://www.whatshappening.sg/events/index.php&#63;com=detail&amp;eID=61035</link>
				      <description>Afternoon viewing with the Artist - 12th February, 3 to 4pm

The ExtraOrdinary is a series of paintings of everyday objects which the artist encounters in his daily life.

'Our life is a series of assumptions and beliefs about what we see, who we are, and how we should go on living. We take certain things for granted simply because we don’t question them. Sometimes we take the wrong things for granted and we will never know if the life we lived is real or just an illusion.'
(Boo Sze Yang)

Boo graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Singapore in 1991; completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art at the University of Reading, UK in 1995; and received his Master in Arts Degree from Chelsea College of Art &amp; Design, the University of the Arts London, UK in 2005. He was a full-time lecturer at NAFA in the Department of Fine Art for 8 years and later Head of Department before he left to practice art full time in 2009.

Boo has held ten solo exhibitions and represented Singapore in numerous group exhibitions in Japan, China, Korea, Philippines, Malaysia and UK. He was recipient of the Asian Artist Fellowship Award 2010/2011 sponsored by the Freeman Foundation for a residency at the Vermont Studio Center, USA. In 2003 he was awarded Juror’s Choice for the Philip Morris Singapore-ASEAN Art Award and the Platinum Award in the UOB Painting of the Year competition in 2009. His works are in the collections of the Singapore Art Museum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Singapore), United Overseas Bank (Singapore), Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore), and Yingu Art Mansion (Beijing).
