Singapore GP Introduces Iconic Italian Acts at the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIXUpping the S$5 million entertainment ante for the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, Singapore GP is introducing two iconic Italian acts to the night race for the first time. Italian production maestros Studio Festi and Andrea Bocelli’s protégés, the DIV4S, will be transforming sections of the circuit park into a visual and musical treat, complete with dramatic sets, lavish scores and acrobatic numbers. A Studio Festi production is best characterised by gravity-defying acts such as life-sized pianos and ships hoisted into the air while dancers and acrobats in aggrandised costumes and suspended midair, twirl to the rhythm of symphony music. The troupe’s use of lighting, pyrotechnic displays, and oversized video projections create visually stimulating imagery that engages live audiences at large outdoor settings. Studio Festi have performed at major festivals and sporting events globally including the Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games. In conjunction with the Italian Institute of Culture Singapore, theatre producer Valerio Festi and acclaimed director Monica Maimone will collaborate to present an after dark audiovisual show themed Italian Harmony at Zone 4 of the Marina Bay Street Circuit on qualifying and race day (25th to 26th September 2010).“We are thrilled to be showcasing Italy’s leading outdoor spectacle in Singapore,” said Professor Ostelio Remi, Director, Italian Institute of Culture. “Studio Festi boasts an unprecedented creative vision and the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX serves as the perfect platform for us to share Italy’s excellence in arts and culture with a sophisticated race audience.”Hitting the stage on an equally high note are the DIV4S, an ensemble of four Italian sopranos, the protégés of legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli. This glamorous quartet will be enthralling race-goers with a repertoire including evergreens, Italian classics, cinematic hits and soothing arias. Their multi-octave falsettos accompanied by strings and orchestra suggestions make for an enchanting performance in an electrifying night race atmosphere. The DIV4S will be performing at the F1 Village Stage in Zone 1 from 25th to 26th September 2010.“Alongside other headliners in a multinational entertainment lineup, these highly celebrated Italian acts are the epitome of artistic excellence which befits the world’s only FORMULA night race,” said Ms Sarah Martin, Director of Operations, Singapore GP. “For the price of one ticket, fans get to enjoy three full days of race action plus a diverse line-up of world-class off-track entertainment which is what makes the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX a truly premier sporting destination.”

September 10th, 2010 - Trail Walking @ Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Step into the nature reserves and journey back in time to the days before Sir Stamford Raffles arrived, when much of the island was covered with lowland, tropical forest. Though much of Singapore's original vegetation had been cleared for logging and cultivation, the forest at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve has remained relatively undisturbed. Likewise, patches of primary rainforest can be seen around the MacRitchie area and Nee Soon Swamp at the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. These nature reserves bounded 4 reservoirs - namely MacRitchie Reservoir, Lower Peirce Reservoir, Upper Peirce Reservoir and Upper Seletar Reservoir. The nature reserves act as water catchment for the reservoirs, in addition, the nature reserves also ensure the quality of water in the reservoirs.Other than being storehouses of water, today, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Central Catchment Nature Reserve are homes to more than 840 flowering plants and over 500 species of animals (including butterflies). With such an astonishing variety of plants, animals and insect life, the nature reserves are indeed treasure houses of Singapore's biodiversity.Covering an area of approximately 3,043 hectares, both the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Central Catchment Nature Reserve are managed by the Central Nature Reserve Branch of the National Parks Board.Picture courtesy of NParks Maps, Hiking & Biking Routes Click here for map of Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.Click here for map of Kampong Trail.Click here for map of Mountain Biking RoutesClick here for Trail Etiquette.Click here for the Parks & Trees Act 2005.Form for Application to Hike at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve for groups of more than 30 Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Visitor CentreBegin your forest exploration with an orientation visit at the Visitor Centre.

Opening Hours: Tue to Fri - 9am to 5pm, Weekends and Public Holidays - 8.30am to 5pm. Closed on Monday Description The HSBC TreeTop Walk (HSBC TTW) is the highlight of several long hiking routes in MacRitchie that brings you through different stages of mature secondary forest. The first of its kind in Singapore and in the region, this free-standing suspension bridge connects the two highest points (Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang) in MacRitchie and offers a bird's eye view of the community of plants and animals that live in the forest canopy. The total length of the walkway is about 250m and its height from the forest floor varies, with the highest point at 25m.Besides providing another avenue for nature recreation for Singaporeans, the HSBC TTW also play an important role in forest canopy research, an area many researchers were not able to get into because of lack of access. This bridge will help to facilitate surveys and plant identification work and further our understanding of how forest ecosystems work. The HSBC TTW was officially launched by the Minister of State for Finance and Transport, Mrs. Lim Hwee Hua, on 5th November 2004. The event also marked the start of another collaboration between NParks and HSBC that will reap benefits for the community. As part of efforts to enhance the HSBC TreeTop Walk as an outdoor classroom to promote an interest and appreciation of the natural sciences, HSBC and NParks established the HSBC-GCF (Garden City Fund) TreeTop Walk Fund to support a host of programmes and activities for conservation, education and outreach. This includes programmes for school children, workshops for teachers, training of nature guides as well as the production of educational materials. The distance to the entrance of the TreeTop Walk is approximately 4.5 km (1.5 - 2 hour walk) from the MacRitchie Reservoir Park and 2.5 km (45 mins - 1 hr walk) from the carpark at Venus Drive. Therefore, a round trip including the TreeTop Walk is about 7 to 10 km (3-5 hours depending on your walking pace). Please note that the walkway only allows for one-direction traffic. The entrance to the bridge is from Ranger Station via Peirce track.
